Spring Clean Your Vehicle

When you hear the words “Spring Cleaning” does your mind typically shift to your home? This time we’re talking about your home away from home, your vehicle. We spend a large amount of our time commuting, and besides a great car insurance policy, let’s make sure to keep our rides in great shape. It’s time to spring clean your vehicle, the old fashioned way!

Hand Wash
1) Give your vehicle a good old fashioned hand wash. The car wash is a great alternative but it sometimes will skip the spaces were the grime, and salt from the winter typically will fall. For the first big wash of the spring, put in some elbow grease and get to it. Open all of the doors, and get into the unseen spots. If you’re not totally satisfied, run it through a car wash after to get the underside of your vehicle for salt buildup and a good wax.

Cut The Clutter
2) Reduce the clutter in your vehicle. Do you really need that hockey bag in your truck for the full year? Empty your whole vehicle; give it a thorough scrub down and vacuuming. Put back only the necessities! Having too much excess weight in your vehicle can affect the condition and mileage over time. Plus, when you score a great free piece of furniture on the side of the road, you’ll be kicking yourself for not having space in the back.

3) Are your headlights not up to par? As the headlight casings are made of plastic they tend to get cloudy and really not night time driving safe. Instead of replacing expensive bulbs your local hardware store should carry a Headlight Restoration Kit for about $25.00. Now out of the city drives will be safer and well lit.

Under The Hood
4) Get a tune-up and an oil change. Let’s face it, if you put the time and money into your vehicle it will last and keep you on the road safe for many years to come. If you have the means to complete these tasks yourself all the better, if not, check out your local shop. Make sure to look into flyers and local coupon websites as they have great deals for these amenities within reach.

5) As temperatures change so can tire pressure! Over-inflation can lead to premature or irregular tire wear and under-inflation reduces a vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Make sure to keep your levels at your manufactures recommendations. If you have season specific tires make sure to swap them out. If you are riding on all season, it is best to rotate them to keep the tire treads lasting longer.

Windshield Wipers
6) Windshield wipers! Spring is the rainiest of the seasons (obviously, I know) make sure your blades are in working order. Spray your windshield with water and give them a few swipes. If you have trouble areas or low visibility, replace them now. Being stuck in a downpour with wipers that just don’t cut it isn’t safe for anyone on the road.

Keep It Fresh
7) Finish off your spring clean with an air freshener, and get that wave of fresh laundry smell when you enter your vehicle. You’ll thank us later.
